100 Things Collections

I've created a blogrolling blogroll so that I can collect and save internet's 100 things lists more easily to this blog.

I will be on the lookout for people's 100 things lists that I have not collected so far.

If I have missed yours and you want to be linked here, please respond to this post and I will gladly add you with trumpet flare! [ Yes I know that's a saxophone ~ :-) ]

Me Claddagh

Look at the lovely blog pin that Mysterious Lady made for me. I love it!

Isn't she special to do that?? Now go on give her a hug will ya?

It's a claddagh symbol. Click here to or here learn more about the legend or re me paraphrase below:

Richard Joyce was a fisherman who lived in the 1500's in the village of Claddagh near Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. He was captured by Spanish pirates and sold into slavery in Africa where he lived many years and learned to become a goldsmith and eventually made it back to Ireland, to his true love, Margaret, who remained unwed during all this time. He designed the ring for her, for which the heart symbolizes love, the crown symbolizes his undying loyalty and the hands symbolize friendship, the very foundation of love.

The claddagh has special meaning to me for a number of reasons including:
- it's Irish and so am I (by birth to my Irish born mother)
- the claddagh story and meaning (above)
- Richard was my grandfathers name - I have a charcoal portrait of him inherited from my aunt hanging in my hallway. I remember him from when I visited Ireland when I was five years old with my aunt. He was very kind to me and took my around on his shoulders playing horsey which I really enjoyed. He died in 1967 when I was 8.
- Margaret is my mother's name and my middle name. She passed away suddenly last year. I'm very sentimental about all things Irish and about her as I miss her terribly.
- me oldest daughter has worn a claddagh ring for years.
- the region around Galway is one of the places I have visited many times.
- I'm especially intrigued about the fishing villages and islands off the west coast of Ireland. I have been to the Aran Islands twice and have read a great deal about the Blasket Islands off the coast of Dingle (Kerry) and I hope to visit them next time I am there.

I just love how she put the little ICL in the heart!

Now read her 100 things about her linked at right!

Why ICL?

Why am I called Irish Church Lady?

I'm fairly active in my church. People at work started calling me church lady as my nickname from time to time. I recently received my Irish passport and confirmation of Irish Citizenship through my mother (RIP June 2005). I love to laugh at funny silly things.
My daughter gave me a funny photo of an old nun blogging on the internet (that I used to use as my photo). Irish Church Lady seemed appropriate.

*6 HAVE YOU EVERS*
1) Have You Ever Dated One Of Your Best Guy/Girl Friends: Only once that I recall. Very short term. It was a university project partner. We spent way too much time together working on this statistics project and kinda grew on each other and had a very short term relationship after that. He was funny, which is why he started growing on me but there was no physical attraction even though I tried.
2) Have You Ever Broken the Law: Speeding, red lights all that stuff. My biggest lawbreaker was I stole a street sign in University that was of my last name (which is kind unusual ~my maiden name). I just had to have it before I graduated. My ma was horrified when I came home with that. It was hard to steal too. Went with my BF late at night with tools. He had to hoist me on his shoulders. Cars went by and everything. We were lucky we did not get caught! Ah memories! The funny thing is that I don't know where it is now. My youngest sister may have taken it over. But it was attached to another street sign, we had to take both at the same time, they came together. Well I brought the two home together still attached when I came back home after graduating from University and get this, my Dad just threw out the other street sign a few weeks ago when I was helping him sort out old stuff from the house. He said he didn't want the police going through his garbage haha. I was always so attached to my maiden name because my parents had four daughters, no one to carry on the family name and my Dad is an only son. I thought about keeping it an naming my daughter with that last name but my married name is kinda kool too and with marrying and becoming an instant mom to three kids I figured it would be less complicated for me to have the same name as my step-kids and I didn't want for my birth daughter to have a different name from her siblings. Sorry to go on and one but I just have to say this stuff.
3) Have You Ever Been Arrested: No, TG. I guess there's always a first time but I sure hope I never am. Not that I'm doing things that would get me arrested now but it's just that I don't think you should ever be so sure of yourself. If someone killed my kids I may in rage do the same (regretfully) so never say never but please pray for me if this happens. LOL
4) Have You Ever Skinny Dipped: Ya, every chance I get. Oh, ya!
5) Have You Ever Been on TV: Yes, the news. Last time was when we were interviewed at the airport heading off to Florida two days before Christmas
6) Have You Ever Kissed Someone You Didn't Know: I don't think I have. I may need to put that on my list of things to do before I die. hee hee
